Minneriya Safari Sri Lanka
Welcome to Ceylon Rocky Safari Jeep Tours!
We are a group of three brothers with over 10 years of combined expertise offering safari services to guests of Sri Lanka’s Minneriya National Park. We are experts at going on safari in Sri Lanka’s Minneriya National Park. Since 2014, we have been going on safari. We drive opulent four-wheel drive jeeps. Our goal for your Minneriyaa tour is to show you the leopards. That is our primary goal.
Nestled in Sri Lanka’s North Central Province, Minneriya National Park is a true wildlife haven, best known for hosting one of Asia’s greatest wildlife spectacles — The Gathering. Every year, hundreds of wild elephants congregate around the ancient Minneriya Tank, creating an unforgettable sight for nature lovers and photographers alike.
The park spans over 8,800 hectares and is rich in biodiversity, offering a safe habitat for a wide range of species, including leopards, sloth bears, deer, crocodiles, and over 160 species of birds. Minneriya’s mix of dry evergreen forests, wetlands, and grasslands makes it one of the best places in Sri Lanka for a safari adventure.
Whether you’re visiting for the elephants, birdwatching, or simply to enjoy the peaceful beauty of nature, Minneriya National Park promises a unique and immersive wildlife experience.
Located in the heart of Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle, Minneriya National Park is one of the island’s top wildlife destinations, drawing thousands of nature enthusiasts every year. The park was declared a national park in 1997, primarily to protect the Minneriya Tank—a centuries-old reservoir built by King Mahasen—and the diverse ecosystem it supports.
The Landscape
Minneriya’s diverse terrain features dry evergreen forests, scrublands, grasslands, and wetlands, making it an ideal habitat for a variety of flora and fauna. The park stretches across 8,800 hectares and is part of an important elephant corridor that links nearby parks like Kaudulla and Wasgamuwa.
The Gathering
The highlight of Minneriya is undoubtedly “The Gathering”, a rare natural phenomenon recognized as one of the largest wild elephant gatherings in the world. Between July and October, during the dry season, over 200–300 elephants emerge from the surrounding forests to gather around the shrinking Minneriya reservoir. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for visitors to witness these gentle giants interact, bathe, and graze in harmony.
